We first tasted these wines at Karakterre a few years ago and knew they were something special! Their impeccable wines-ume (resume but wine) includes working for natural wine ICONS like Gut Oggau, Heinrich and Michael Gindl! The property consists of volcanic soil (basalt) with limestone, sand and clay, and hosts regionally beloved vines like kekfrankos (blaufrankisch), welschriesling, chardonnay \u0026amp; furmint, which are vinified using neutral oak barrels and amphoras. They modestly state that they plan to expand a bit more in the future, but no more than five hectares, as they say that is where you start to lose your time to clerical work, instead of being in the vines and cellar (their fave part!). FUN FACTS! The winery is named after the first street they ever made wine on together, AND the labels are inspired by a local folk tale (St. George killing the dragon) and feature two heads + two tails to symbolize the pair, with each label actually being stamped by hand with their logo! The extremely appropriately named ‘LIME’ is a blend of direct-pressed, orchardly, mineral riesling (90%) from sand stone-basalt and all-over-verdant furmint from clay-basalt, aged between oak barrels and amphora for eight months. (kind of) FUN FACTS! 2024 was actually the hottest and driest vintage ever in this area, but by harvesting super early they were able to maintain a balance between richness and acidity - which is quite honestly impeccable! This hotter 2024 vintage is a near 50\/50 blend of 10-day, whole cluster semi-carbonically macerated pinot noir and direct pressed pinot gris left to rest between big oak barrels and amphoras. Green plum umeboshi, cave air, salmonberry, lemony acid and fruity rosehip jam sweetness wrap around in a dancing, spiralling helix, grey rocks, silky smooth texture \u0026amp; violets pressed between pages.
