A classically charming and aromatic volcanic red blend. Originally from Marsala on the west coast of Sicily, Manfredi returned to make his first wine in 2020, having been inspired by tasting his way through Rome and Milan. Today he cares by hand for a modest 1.5 hectares of 20-25 year-old vines of the regional favourites grillo, zibibbo, catarratto, nerello mascalese, nocera and corinth, all showcased with minimal intervention from vine to wine. The peppery, darkly-fruited nocera, floral, earthy nerello mascalese, lean, herbal nero d’avola and full, fruity and forest-y corinto grapes were harvested, destemmed, and 50% crushed for a 15 day maceration on the skins to pull structure and undeniable character. Raspberry jam full of pectin, potpourri jar, ripe strawberries in sunlight, liquorice root, scrubby herbs, salt, soot & volcanic minerality. Enjoy alongside caponata, a beloved, stewed Sicilian appetizer made from a bunch of sweet, salty, and sour components – including fried eggplant, tomatoes, capers, onions, and pretty much any other vegetable on hand!
