A Sincere Sancerre
Wine classics are like tried and true sneakers or a crisp white shirt. There is a reason they are famous and beloved! Sancerre is a region you should know and love in Loire Valley, France making glorious examples of Sauvignon Blanc. Pascal Jolivet is an OG producer. This was purchased at the LCBO! All of these things are excellent. Here is way more + fotos.
Never trust a euro website with perfect English! In his own words "Pascal Jolivet is one of the youngest and dynamic wine estate in Loire". Lololol we agree Pascal! Okay, so we were asked for a WHITE option for #LCBOANDU and here is a great one. We poached this guy from the "crossroads" LCBO at Weston and 401 where agent's consignment wine goes to die. <it is actually referred to as crossroads!! Isn't that kind of perfect?! Like the crossroads between meager monopoly selection and the bounty of private agency wine?!>. There were tons left and at $28 this is an insane deal. That said if you can't find this exact wizard producer, not to fear! The Loire is confusing as fuck, for wine professionals too, but there is SO MUCH GOOD STUFF amongst those castles that we promise it is worth a quick review! The big picture: the Loire Valley is a large wine region situated along the Loire river from Muscadet on the Atlantic Coast to Sancerre and Pouilly Fume in north central France. A bunch of delicious things live in between! They make great Melon, Chenin Blanc and Cabernet Franc! There are actually 87 AOC (controlled appellations) in the Loire! Holy crap! No wonder we all get confused!! There are also many fine cremants (champagne methode from France not made in champagne!) from this zone too! But I'm getting distracted! Loire is home to many many great domaines. In the north east where Sancerre and Pouilly Fume are located they specialize in Sauvignon Blanc that is stony, savoury perfection. SB has been grown here since the roman era (so long before NZ!). They are the OG SB killers. Kimmeridgian marl (old sea creature land!), limestone and clay soils = concentrated af briny flavours. Pascal is a badass producer.
This is a medium bodied thick piece of a white wine. A real woman who knows herself and is not afraid of her glorious parts. Honey suckle, boiled pineapple, the perfume of a fairy, apple sauce, and the taste of a sunset on a seashore. This wine is romanticcccc. We may be late but boy do we mean business. Search for this on a field trip to CROSSROADS or try another Pouily-Fume or Sancerre. Even the bigger producers will be pretty good!! 🌹🌹🌹
