Wow have u ever seen so many FONTS? Graphic design enthusiasts, cover your eyes + open your hearts - here’s a toast to Easter and Passover and family! 🥂A toast to compromise and to making our relatives happy and OK FINE maybe our parents and cousins and bubbies and abuelos don’t want to drink our wild glouglou wines -rude - maybe they like something that tastes SMOOTH and RED and EXPENSIVE, or something that reminds them of TRADITION, and sometimes that’s nice for us too. 👯♀️ On the left, 2013 Hedges Red Mountain from Washington strikes a balance - a wine we would joyfully share with our most conservative family, but that is also farmed and made with care. A blend of Cab, Merlot + nearly as many other grapes as there are fonts on the label. Distinctly American, made by Sarah Hedges Goedhart at the winery her parents began in the ‘70s in eastern Washington. ⛰ So many descriptive words can be applied to this wine that we rarely use - rich smooth velvety blackberry oaky 💣🍇🍒🥥🥩WHAT R WE WINE SPECTATOR NOW (90 points!) but really it is delicious and we will keep this beauty in our back pocket when we want to impress Bordeaux loving, classic American Cab-chugging friends and fam. 🌹On the right, MANISCHEWITZ, kosher Passover wine mmm 😬🍷 Not all wine is delicious! 😂 But kosher wine is hard to find, and harder to make, and if you have a minute we urge you to read Alice Feiring’s excellent article in the New York Times on kosher wine, family, and tradition. ⭐️ We do not recommend Manischewitz as something good to drink; however it is Passover and if someone in your family is kosher this “wine” might make an appearance at the table. 🍇Sweet boozy grape juice! 🍇 Made from Concord grapes aka backyard grapes, heavily processed, it is best described as SWEET and GRAPEY. 🙃 For Nicole it summons memories of Detroit and her bubby who loved Kmart and packaged potatoes. Krysta is reminded of drinking communion grape juice after church when her stepfather was a minister and pretending it was real wine. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Tradition is nice, we’ll wash these down with some dank Pét-Nat later, because balance is key, and whatever you’re drinking happy holidays 2 u #lcboandu 🐣 🐰
Hello! It’s me! Nicole! From a sweaty bus rocketing toward Cartagena, Colombia full of spicy chips sporting an irregular shaped burn and the memory of many good dogs! In one week today we are having a very nice party, I will be back (finally!!!) just in time to celebrate the @weingut_brand brothers in Toronto for the first time!! ☀️🌴🎈 The main party kicks off at @paradisegrapevine Thursday April 25th at 9 pm! No tickets needed. ☀️ Will I bring you an arepa? Does my sunburn contain a message that pertains to your future and if you should start that masters program and/ or try that ceramics class at the gardener museum? 🍶 Are Daniel and Jonas as impossibly cute as they look? What is the Wilder Satz baby (picture 3) thinking and did their grandma really draw it?! 🎨 Come taste these joyous wines and party with us forever at dream spot Paradise!!!!! xoxoxooxxo te amo
Here is a little treat, in honour of Nicole’s birthday. Nicole is in Colombia, and this is me Krysta, perishing from loneliness! Nicole first found out about Duncan Savage care of our friend Jamie Goode. She said something like “yeah, we can use the Internet we are not dumb!!! But what is an insider’s place in South Africa we must not miss that the Internet has not kissed with her all knowing orb” ☀️ Enter Duncan Savage, a hero winemaker/surfer in the Swartland region. 🍷 We believed his wines were universally very expensive like his sought after Savage White or his Follow the Line Cinsault which reminds us why cinsault rules our hearts and minds with her levity and ease and pepper cologne. What a surprise to find this at the local monopoly store at King and Spadina for 16 bucks! ✔️ It is reasonable to be suspicious of any wine labelled Shiraz from not-Australia; and omg it is imperative to be suspicious of a wine named UNTAMED, but this is a real meaty treat. Imagine the ripeness of the southern Rhone, but from a winemaker that isn’t afraid of a little herbaceous green vibe.
Food friendly, easy-going, peppery and dangerously smooth. This is a nice wine to bring to a dinner party, or to your fam’s house for Easter, or to sip watching sports you don’t care about BUT with people you really like. Served slightly chilled it is a dream, and it felt nice to drink it watching the hockey game at top bar @the47to (hope our team wins), thinking about Nicole on her birthday and her love of the 🔥 value wines of South Africa, and thinking about how cool it must be to have the last name SAVAGE. Does his handsome exterior hide his wild heart? Does he, like Nicole, have secrets he will only share after many glasses and the sighting of +/- 5 stray dogs and a peacock? #lcboandu
It’s wishful thinking to believe that today was the last snowstorm of the season, but heck are we ready for spring!!! 🌿❄️ We found ourselves by accident in Liberty Village, searching for soulless jobs in advertising, downloading multiple dating apps, and checking out shoebox condos (lol jk but it WAS the closest LCBO that was open) 🏙 📦 And while wine pickings were slim, the selection of cocktail dranks was pretty good - including this YUZU + LIME SAKE COLLINS that we couldn’t resist and WOW people we are cocktail drinkers now. 🍋🍊💦 Izumi’s sake collins is the refreshing party drink of our future summer selves! 💅🏻 As budding mixologists we recommend you ask your strongest friend or lover to crush some ice for you (be careful!) and then pour this into your favourite glass, garnish it with a bit of citrus for your vitamin c health, and look like a freaking hero! ☀️ Izumi is Ontario Spring Water Sake Company, making sake in the Distillery District (go!) and we couldn’t be more impressed with this fruity hussy of an adult-cooler, with ingredients listed that we can understand, including yuzu aka babe juice because no babe can resist its magical fruity delicate citrus vibes. 😍🍋👯♀️😋 Tonight may be the night to cook the last rich stew of winter, but this makes us dream of burying our toes in beach sand on the island, or maybe sipping this on a dock somewhere feeling the sun on our glow-in-the dark butts. ☀️🥂🧜🏻♀️👙🕶🌷🥤🏊♀️🚣♂️⛵️🏖 #lcboandu #mixology #barchef
Greetings from Cusco where our favourite wine is in fact margaritas!!!! 🍸#gwontheroad
PARTY ANNOUNCEMENT! 🎉 It is happening! After falling in love with them in LA (as radiant beams of sunshine pouring the most delicious things), we have finally lured the @weingut_brand brothers, Daniel and Jonas, to Canada. Not only have they won the unofficial, but important prize as Natural Wine’s Cutest Brothers, but they also make tremendous wine in the Pfalz that we have been joyously glug-ing up every chance we get. 😽
Their wines are currently completely sold out, but the brothers have agreed to join our ranks and become professional wine smugglers! 😈 Join us as we taste through 6 of their wines and hear the story of Germany, natural wine, sulphur vs. no-sulphur, how to become very cute, and more surprises!
This is the fourth natural wine producer feature and we can’t wait!
