A delight to visit Quebec star winery @les_pervenches after years of all our Montreal friends generously splashing our glasses with this gorgeous biodynamic juice. LCBO and U✨ Extremely fancy edition! 😛 We were blown away to see an incredible selection of our favourite natural wines at the Spadina and Front LCBO (49 Spadina Avenue - peep the stories for more picks!), but were literally unable to resist this 2017 Les Vieux Clos from Coulée de Serrant aka incredible fine, savoury, wild and ageable Chenin Blanc from one of the world’s most famous wineries. 🚨🚨🚨 Usually, the world’s finest wines are stratospherically expensive, but here in the under rated Loire, one of the region’s most famous bottles is just $54 aka the price of a mediocre Napa white. 🔥 The three wines of Coulée are almost as iconic as their long maker, Nicolas Joly, a certified wizard 🧙♂️ who is known as *the* worldwide expert on biodynamics and telling you the radio waves in your phones are killing agriculture (and also you!!). 🤷♀️ Since 1984 he has been farming his 7 hectare plot in the Loire’s famed Savennières biodynamically, while penning multiple books and inspiring countless winemakers and enthusiasts alike. 📚 Today his daughter Virginie makes the estates intellectually dense and moving wines - the top expression, simple ‘Coulée de Serrant’, is one of only three single estate appellations within France (aka très special and utterly unique). 💸💸💸 But back to this bottle! At first young Savennières can smell like wet wool and you might think “is this corked and/or nasty!?”. Do not be afraid! 💘 Some great wines, like some great people, just need a little time to open up. 🌹 The winery recommends watching how it develops over 7 days (it improves greatly!) and if you simply cannot wait (like us) at least leaving it in an open decanter (any jug or vase will do!) for a few hours before serving. 🕯 It’s taste for now? An oversized sweater worn by an aged, revered artist left in a riverbed overflowing with -*almost* rotten citrus, roasted market nuts, spiced mushrooms (you heard us) and a jolt of acidity so bold you believe God may be real and in fact has been Chenin Blanc this whole time. 🤯 None online, but lots in store along with their top bottle for a cool $112. #lcboandu #lcboandurbroke #godisacheninblanc
