The Coven: Samantha Howden
We are so lucky to have Samantha Howden in our lives. She will be back this Monday April 3rd reading tarot and sharing her powerful insightfulness with our group. Welcome to the coven, Sam.
where is your family from: My family is from Winnipeg, Manitoba. Manitoba is from the Algonquin word for great spirit, and Winnipeg from the Cree for muddy waters. Therefore, I am from the land of the muddy waters and the great spirit.
first time you did something witchy: It's hard to pin down the word witchy in my mind. It's a very western way of saying something that pertains to the esoteric arts. It's difficult for me to pick the exact moment in which I did something 'witchy', and it probably goes back further than when I can remember. I will say this: I have always had very vivid dreams and experienced something beyond our known and recognized five senses.
first spell: My first spell was a water spell although I love fire just the same! I have always connected with the elements of opposites. I find it hard to have balance in my life and am always striving for it (libra rising). This spell involved flooding the first floor of my parents condo, a very angry (and up until that point) unresponsive babysitter and a green garden hose which I held in my hands as I leapt with joy and excitement. I would say, overall, my first spell was a terrific success.
what makes your heart beat very fast: The moon, the sun and the stars. Western Astrology became one of my favourite subjects to study. My heart beats faster the more I learn about the unknown!
first boy or girl you ever kissed, tell us the story: Can we just pass this over and say it was as thrilling as kissing a frog without receiving the prince? Next question please. Tell me your grade school kiss was any different?!
how many sultry dresses do you own: 5, best to count the things that matter all on one hand.
what is your favourite thing to make in a cauldron: Things that end in L. Just try and spell it!
what do you most want to teach the normals about your work: that we are constantly interacting with things that are 'witchy' and that we are never as far away from the unexplained as we think we are.
three witchy women you admire: My mother! Momma bear, who allowed me to grow spiritually and continues to do so and my two beautiful, ethereal best friends Aimee and Lauren. These women know the depths of my soul and have never looked away even in the darkest of times.
