Somms on a Boat// Adrienne Friesen
Our biggest party ever approaches! We can't wait to take over the river gambler for Toronto's - Ontario's! Canada's! North America's? - largest natural wine booze cruise.
Yay! Tons more details here. Tickets are over 3/4 sold out so grab yours soon and join us for such nice times on Monday August 20th.
We have collected an incredible group of women to pour wine for you. We thought it was high-time we properly introduced them. We thus present a mini-series! SOMMS ON A BOAT.
First up is Adrienne Friesen.
If you have been to a few parties Adrienne's smiling face is a fixture. Find her long arms pouring you pet nat, dancing awkwardly and raising her arms in merriment! We met Adrienne as an enthusiastic somm in a cool hat at our very first GW parties and instantly fell in love. She is so incredibly knowledgable and it has been such a treat to watch her grow from advertising/ serving to a top wine agent to some of Toronto's most thrilling restaurants pursuing her WSET Diploma (fancy wine school!). She brings the best energy, curiosity, good times and black on black ensembles everywhere she goes. She has asked to be called Goth Witch, but we prefer to call her Cat Mom or Captain of Cheer. q & a after the break. Find her pouring you delicious elixirs on a floating bar, at most places we pop up and here posting hot content on IG.
name // Adrienne Friesen
job // Lifford wine rep
what do you most love about choosing nice wine for nice people? // I love answering the questions that you’ve been too embarrassed or scared to ask! There really is no such thing as a dumb question in wine. We all have to start somewhere and wine should be fun and accessible.
favourite wine style of the moment // I’m currently very into chilled light reds for summer, especially Spanish Garnacha
greatest misconception about your job you would like to set straight // That wine reps only work 9-5! I am always available to help people find nice wines!
greatest misconception about your job you would like to remain deliciously obscured // Whether or not I put on pants while working at home before I need to visit clients.
the title of your autobiography // Wine, cheese & cats: the essentials
greatest boating experience you have had up to this point // I once spent a night on a boat in Norway! I went for a swim off the boat too but didn’t last long because there were too many jellyfish lurking.
favourite wine to drink surrounded by water while floating// Rose of course! Maybe even one with bubbles or a touch of sweetness.
outfit inspiration for august 20th // A lifeguard! In my younger years I was a professional swim coach and am great at telling people not to run on the pool (or boat?!) deck.
