Chillable Red Bangers
Chillable Red Bangers
Jurançon Noir & Malbec, Cahors, France | You F&@k My Wine follows in the great tradition of winemakers passive-aggressively giving the finger to their given geographical authorities. In the case of this juicy red blend, it was declassified from Cahors AOC due to the inclusion of Jouves’ favourite regional grape, Jurançon Noir, leading to Jouves eschewing the appellation entirely, opting instead to live life as a Vin de France, which as we all know, have more fun anyways. Made from a single, half-hectare plot, this biodynamic blend was fermented and aged for 6 months in concrete tank. Glossy, effortless and gently rustic with layers of dark, billowing fruit and notes of scratch & sniff cherry, raspberry seed, black pepper and a whiff of milk chocolate. With soft, supple & succulent tannins, put a chill on this rascal and enjoy with the trashiest television you can muster – it’s your time to become a Real Housewife!
Zweiglet & St Laurent, Burgenland, Austria | Hype beast alert!! One of our fave wines EVER is back in stock. While the rest of Austria is better known for its crisp and ultra-classic whites, the small region of Burgenland has become a hot-bed of experimental producers making show-stopping wines. Top of the heap is Claus Presisinger, a young biodynamic grower operating out of a small, modern winery in the sub-appellation of Gols, which is literally #goals. He was the first winemaker to start experimenting with skin contact and when we visited a few summers ago (#humblebrag) truly every wine he makes is spectacular. The Puszta has quickly become one of the most iconic bottles of ‘natty glou glou’ wine on the planet. We just want to pack a case of these into a cooler and drive off into the distance. Earthy & crazy chuggable with big cherry coke nibs energy. Spicy with the perfect natty snarl.
Zweigelt & St. Laurent, Burgenland, Austria | Rét is one of those wines that we come back to time and time again, like a favourite book or movie that is ALWAYS as good as you remember. On the one hand, it is so utterly crushable that you will be tempted to dump the whole bottle into a fountain soda cup & honestly why shouldn’t you? At first it’s all cran-cherry fruit & cola spritz. But upon further inspection, you’ll find it has an equally strong serious streak, like when you find out your wildest, party-est friend secretly as a degree in, like, quantum physics. Earthy, smoky & black peppery, Rét is like the smell of the month of October exploded into a wine. Crackling dried leaves & outdoor firepit, clear & crisp & romantic. Grapes are hand-harvested, fermented on the skins for about 10 days without temperature control, then pressed & aged in acacia barrels on gross lees for 14 months. Pairs perfectly with: classic Burberry plaid, an impromptu game of softball that becomes weirdly high-stakes weirdly quickly, cool breezes & hand-holding, going for a run with a dog.
