Albariño, Rías Baixas, Spain | An astonishing Albariño from Albert Nanclares and Silvia Prieto in Sanxenxo, like a hot, cloudless day at the beach in a bottle! Nanclares y Prieto is all about low intervention winemaking & low sulphur, in addition to celebrating the shooting star acid of Spain’s star white grape, Albariño. Sourced from 3 plots of 25-95-year-old vines, this blend of young and old vines promises a youthful freshness with incredible aging potential, like you in your 30s! Foot-trodden & aged in a single 90-year-old chestnut barrel for 9 months, this is crisp but bountiful in texture – margarita freezie at Hanlan’s, lime zest salt rim, breezy white florals & sand between your toes minerality with an acid that sings into the night. Drink one now, stash another away & turn up the soft rock for this frolic in the sun.

Penedès, Spain | A luscious, creamy & textured white that sashays into the room like it owns the damn place. It’s a grand dame, like Mae West. Lees & malo vibes: anise & caramel cream, banana soft-serve. Fruit is like little cute apple & pear hard candies at a confectionary shop a long time ago. Lucid acid gravel saline vein running through it, lifting it up. Was put on this Earth to pair with a cheeseboard.

Welschriesling, Styria, Austria | Despite the fact that the word Riesling is blatantly in its name, Welschriesling bears no relation to the other great Riesling we all know & love. Welschriesling is way more chilled out than regs Riesling, delicately aromatic & mutable, stylistically more akin to a Sylvaner or even a Chard. In this case, old oak & the distinct minerality of the Scheppes’ Opok soils (a mixture of limestone and clay, rich in minerals and marine fossils) imparts the grape with smokiness, style & complexity. Farmed biodynamically with no fining, filtration, or sulfites, this a perky little ponytail of a white, your most wholesome & agreeable pal, who knows the rules to every card game & always remembers to text you on your ‘friendship anniversary.’ The nose offers a light musk of yesterday’s perfume; bright acidity & gentle effervescence give it a bouncy, youthful vibe, with a palate of freshly-picked green apple, pear blossom, beeswax & marzipan.
