Fine & Fancy Fizzers
Macabeu, Monastrell & Xarel-lo, Conca del Riu Anoia, Spain
This sparkling Spanish rosé is luscious without being precious, made using the traditional method a la Champagne. Drinking it makes you feel like you just won an Oscar, successfully pulled off a really classy heist at an art museum, or are just a regular person who loves good wine and wants to drink something baller tonight because why not. Pretty and mineral, with a splash of red grape Monastrell added to the classical white Cava blend. This wine is an Audrey not a Katharine: timeless, graceful and serene.
Chenin Blanc & Chardonnay, Loire Valley, France
Tasting Bobinet’s Rififi for the first time is an experience you can never walk back from: the platonic ideal of an everyday sparkling, from here on out it will be the ace up your sleeve that turns every situation into an angelic cloud party of luminiscent good vibes, forever. And we’re barely even being hyperbolic! It’s like golden retriever puppies & Beatles songs: it never doesn’t work. Relatively clean & classic for a pet-nat (i.e. “you can drink it with your mom” level mellow); after undergoing a single fermentation in bottle, Rififi is disgorged to get rid of sediment, giving it clear tones & elegant energy. Charismatic Chenin Blanc is blended with a splash of the always dependable Chardonnay for a silken, Brie-like mouthfeel. Bubbles are foamy & moussey, texturally root beer-esque. Bone-dry, taut citrus & riverstone meet beeswax & baked apple, all perfectly balanced by Chenin’s trademark incandescent acidity. We are really not messing around when we say this is a perfect bottle of bubbs for any context! Chic & moonlit dinner party, brocade & spangles at a v v fancy soiree, unshowered with dirty feet on a camping trip, sitting around in your medium-clean apartment wearing a medium-good outfit during a classic weeknight hang with your bff.
Pinot Noir & Chardonnay, Champagne, France
Look past the weirdly-affixed label & discover the saintly pleasures of this incredibly priced grower Champagne from the Southern Aube region! This salty & savoury delight is smack dab in the middle of the Champagne spectrum — on one end, salty & fresh, and on the other, savoury & rich — so you're really getting the best of both worlds, why choose! Think almond brittle, salted caramels, oyster shell, lightning-emoji acidity & fine, creamy mousse to soften some of those angular edges. No need for an occasion to open this bad boy up, you are the occasion, darling.
