Pinot Noir, Refošk & Cabernet Sauvignon, Istria, Slovenia | The house red wine of our dream Eastern European sports bar, all woodsy, dusty and deeply satisfying with Foosball in the corner. Meet ‘Festival’, a highly consumable red blend of Pinot noir (light freshness!), Refošk (herby inky acid!) & Cabernet Sauvignon (structure & savoury tannin!), from Istria, Slovenia. Korenika & Moškon are family-owner biodynamic winery championing delicious wines made consciously. Expect a gently brooding, leathery nose balanced by calendula, Ikea lingonberry juice box, blood orange squeeze & fresh wine gummy package. At first sip, plums, overgrown herbs, ripe raspberry jam and the comfort of a denser dose of tannins. Pair with stuffed cabbage rolls, campfires and calling your mother.
Refosk, Istria, Slovenia | A heartwarming wine, carrying history, pride & tradition on its shoulders. K&M is a family owned & biodynamic certified winery located in Istria, Slovenia – a coastal never-never land, producing delightfully delicious wines. Grown on sandstone with plenty of marine sediment, the grapes are left for four days of cold maceration to extract soft, inviting tannins, before sitting on lees for 20 months to mature. Refosk (or refosco) is a very dark skinned grape, considered to be one of the oldest varieties originating from the area between the karst and coastal Slovenia. Karst is a plateau region where the dissolving of bedrock has created sinkholes, sinking streams, caves, and springs, etc. Fruit mash, purple flower, cranberries on a log, rosemary twigs, blueberry juice, ground cloves sitting in great-grandma’s spice cabinet. Pour alongside roast beef & spicy cheeses!
Pinot Blanc, Malvasia, Sauvignon Blanc, Istria, Slovenia
| Like drinking the yellow stripes of a bumblebee! Korenika & Moškon is a family owned & biodynamic certified winery located in Istria, Slovenia. A shoreline dreamland of rolling hillsides, an enviable view of the Adriatic, and rich land where their vines – and olive trees! – stretch from the salt-soaked coastline to higher hinterland. The soils are composed of limestone and marl with sea sediment, at altitudes between 15 and 35 meters above sea level. The grapes are destemmed, crushed and left to macerate for 36 hours, before going through malolactic fermentation (for a round n’ supple feel), and six months of aging. Yellow rose petals, straw, blooming rosemary, salted peaches, gooseberry, dried papaya & yellow kiwis. Pour alongside herbaceous salads, that’s right, an illusive ‘salad wine’ has been located!
Malvazija & Pinot Blanc, Istria, Slovenia | “Good-morning sunshine!”, says this plush, 90s silk-dress of a blend of Malvazija & Pinot Blanc. Korenika & Moškon is a family owned & biodynamic certified winery located in Istria, Slovenia. A coastal dreamland producing inviting, joyous wines. Welcoming notes of lemon drops, shortbread, waving jasmine flowers & crushed boulder minerality. With a surprisingly satisfying rounded and plush palate for the lover of Loire Chenin Blanc (#same) - think dollops of honeyed sweetness perfectly cut by tidal pool salinity and white currant acidity. Drink this treat on a Wednesday evening, chive cream cheese and smoked salmon bagel in hand, while your cat watches you from atop the fridge, begging you to drop some.
