After last year's summer of LUTE, we are DELIGHTED to welcome back Jonathan Stuchbery on our glorious back patio to kick off our musical programming with his new group, Duo Oriana.

In this special, ticketed event, Jonathan will be joined by soprano Sinéad White for a two-part program featuring songs from the 'Toronto Book of Ayres' by Jonathan with texts by Toronto poets Martin Gomes and Melly Davidson. These songs are woven into sets of music by English renaissance and baroque composers including Thomas Morley, John Danyel, and Henry Purcell, revealing timeless themes of humanity that bridge the centuries in surprising ways. What a POWERFUL way to spend a Monday!

All tickets inlcude a glass of wine with non-alcoholic options also available. The performance will run 6:30-7 PM, with a 30 minute break with the second half running 7:30-8 PM. More information on Duo Oriana below!

It's all going down in our gorgeous, weatherproof Dundas back patio. Tickets are non-refundable, but can be transferred to another name.

Duo Oriana— formed by soprano Sinéad White and lutenist Jonathan Stuchbery— is a
Canadian ensemble breathing new life into song traditions that span centuries and continue to evolve today. Praised for their “impeccable rhythmic ensemble” (La Scena Musicale), White’s “luminous” soprano and Stuchbery’s “energizing precision” (The Whole Note), they have quickly established their presence in the early music world. In partnership with Early Music America, Musique Royale and Living Room Live, they have presented their programs to audiences across Canada.
With support from the Canada Council for the Arts, Duo Oriana released their debut album How Like a Golden Dream with Leaf Music in 2023. It was featured in the Whole Note’s “Listening Room”, and received highly positive reviews in La Scena Musicale, the Lute Society Quarterly and the American Record Guide. The duo did a subsequent album tour across the UK and Ireland, including performances at the Lute Society, Windsor Castle and Oxford University. Most recently, Duo Oriana performed their new program The Bards of Bloor Street as part of the Canadian Opera Company’s renowned Free Concert Series in the Richard Bradshaw Amphitheatre in Toronto. The program featured the premiere of Jonathan’s original song cycle, the Toronto Book of Ayres, which included text by local poets and was generously supported by the Toronto Arts Council.
