Paolo’s three hectares of familial river valley vineyards in Mantova sit right at the intersection of Veneto and Emilia-Romagna, here he works to honourably represent the Lambrusco family, alongside long-planted, international grapes adapted to the area’s particular microclimate. ‘Melampo’ is a fully destemmed, direct-pressed blend of 5-10 year-old, citric pinot bianco (45%), picked first and fermented alone, while the mineral, delicately herbal garganega (45%) and highly aromatic, tropical malvasia di candia (10%) are picked together and co-fermented. The grapes are harvested from two estate parcels planted on highly draining alluvial soils – for you soil curious, the soils are limestone and sand predominately, with a very deep base of pure white clay!
