Much like a Chanel suit, we will never tire of expertly crafted classics. Winemakers Jill Klein Matthaisson and Steve Matthiasson worked for many years in the local sustainable agriculture scene, beginning the winery in 2003 firmly rooted in ecologically-minded values. More recently, they've also given back to the community through BIPOC internships that equip the next generation with 20-years of best practice farming knowledge. We have heard nothing but amazing things about the program, who they are as people, and that is all before we talk about their best in class wines. FUN FACT! 2020 was a drought year, which can actually be very positive, being as vines adapt to dry conditions by producing less fruit, packed with more structure and concentration – aka a golden opportunity to make an especially age-worthy vintage. A Bordeaux inspired wine that was picked just before the wildfire smoke hit their area, with the obvious focus on (95%) robust cabernet sauvignon, sprinkled with (4%) purple-powered petit verdot & (1%) brave cabernet franc, like seasoning on the main course. Aged for 20 months in a combination of mostly old, with a few new barrels to add minimal, and well integrated oak. Abundant dark and tart red fruits, cherry tree, catmint, mulberry, old leather bus seats, graphite in a coal bed, dried cedar & emptying a pencil shaver. This wine requests nothing more than a sizzling hunk of meat off the grill.
