If Saint Valentine were to drink anything, it may just be this idyllically sweet, vin de paille (aka straw) style wine – imagine warm climate ice wine! From the charming village of Rotalier, in the smallest wine region of France – Jura. The 4 hectares of limestone-heavy vineyards are worked organically, and almost exclusively by the hands of winemakers Peggy and Jean-Pascal. Gaining experience since ’99 (and with guidance from legendary neighbour Monsieur Ganevat), they produce wines that are sincere, versatile & frank, perfectly reflecting their dedication and temperate foothill terroir. ‘Epicure’ is 50% tree-fruity Chardonnay, 25% rosy Poulsard, 25% salty Savagnin, all dried for 3 months in open air, then pressed and aged for 24 months before bottling. Magnificently orange toned, with a spicy nose of dried fig & wilting florals. And a greedy mouth, tongue raised & salivating, with pronounced golden gooseberry acidity, caramel nut brittle, sea grape saltiness & apricot marmalade. Pair with crème brulee and jostaberries or Snack Pack vanilla pudding and a plastic spoon for a laughably delicious experience.
