As friendly as a kiss on each cheek and learning someone’s name. Jean-Louis is a captain of Beaujolais: devoted, highly capable & beloved – for both his top-tier wines and his welcoming nature. This old family parcel, located close to the house that Jean-Louis grew up in, is the outlier child of the drinkable Dutraive family. Brouilly is famous for its volcanic and metamorphic decomposed rock, but Jean-Louis’ parcel is entirely mismatched as it rests on limestone and clay, bringing something new to the Brouilly table. The organic vines are at minimum 50 years of age (with majority clocking in at well beyond 100!) and translate the imprints of their homeland with vigour and love. Dried bouquet of roses and violets, forest floor after a wildfire, deeply mineral, with graphite, blood & iron. Pour alongside celebrations of love. For example, instead of the traditional sixth anniversary gift of iron, drink this!
