Grencahe Blanc, Muscat d’Alexandria, Jura, France
Like a jar of momentarily captured fireflies, breathe in the warm glow, then release. Karnage is the triumphant and unpredictable coming together of two friends, inspired wine shop owner Stéphane Planche and passionate winemaker Charles Dagand. Together they have developed this négoce (bought fruit) winemaking operation in Arbois, working with grapes from their grape growing friends all over the south of France. ‘Greska’ is a blend of opulent grenache blanc (85%) from Languedoc and corsage-wearing muscat d’alexandria (15%) from Canet-en-Roussillon. Fermented separately, both grapes saw a 50% direct press, with the other half left whole cluster and macerated in the juice for 10 days (a technique referred to as ‘trompette’, or ‘steeping’) to extract a rich and balanced tannin structure. Pineapple flower, mineral heartbeat, honeycomb cereal bag, cooling rosemary and mint herbaceousness, melon slices on lemon sherbet, green peppercorn & lime squeeze. Pour while the daffodils pop up outside your back window.
