A classic Loire red with a twist that that demands to be bought in pairs; “On est su l’sable’ or ‘we’ve hit sand’ is a nod to Laurent Lebled’s sandy Chinon terroir and the dread of getting to the bottom of a bottle with no other in sight. Initially a woodworker, Lebled came to know natural wine through supplying untreated timber to natural producers who have since become his peers (think famous friends like Sebastien Bobinet and Olivier Cousins). Here, Lebled ditches the bark and engages with steel and fiberglass for freshness, achieving gentle, carbonically macerated cab franc that brings juicy lift to this naturally savoury star grape. Add a 50 to 70 year-old organic parcel with no sulphur addition at any point in production, and you have a fun, freaky treat that is all cherry leather, green pepper moss, and smoking purple fruit blends from an old pipe. Sip while digging your toes into the shadow-covered edge of the beach.
