A firecracker light nerello mascalese that zips before your very eyes, shattering the sky like a trillion tangoing fireflies. Winemaker Anna Martens is beautifully talented, keenly wise & a riveting story teller. Her wines are living, breathing entities that speak gladly about their place of origin and the tender touches they are blessed by. FUN FACT! Their Palmento wines are an homage to the traditional Palmento buildings of Etna, where grapes were trodden by foot in lava stone vats! Always organic, the ‘Palmento Rosso’ blend is mainly composed of northern facing nerello mascalese (90%), with deeply-hued nerello cappuccio (2%), smoky alicante (aka grenache, 3%) and regional white varieties sapid grecanico, aromatic minella bianca & zesty catarratto (making up only 5% in total). Fermented in their 300 year old wine building in a cocktail of vessels, including palmento (the traditional open-top stone vats of Etna), tank and old oak foudre, with a subsequent aging for seven months between tank, foudre & buried amphora – striking balance like a tightrope walker over Niagara Falls. Very berry, very cherry, very wild strawberry! With spry herbaceousness and that ever constant volcanic minerality we hold so dear. Enjoy while planting your tulip bulbs.
