Welschriesling & Gemischter Satz, Burgenland, Austria | It’s kind of an open secret that we’re high-key obsessed with Burgenland-based winemakers Alexander & Maria Koppitsch. Every wine they make is a near-perfect, perfectly-imperfect expression of method, time & place. Their whimsical, stylish skin contact is named ‘Touch’ as a double-entendre – first, as a cute/hot ‘skin contact’ pun (get it???), secondly, in reference to the profound emotional reactions skin-contact wines tend to evoke in their enjoyer. Getting into the double-entendre spirit of things, we are always TOUCHed by the creativity & innovation the Koppitsches bring to their wines. Touch is a blend of Welschriesling & Gemischter Satz, a traditional Austrian field blend comprised of Gruner Veltliner, Weissburgunder, Sauvignon Blanc & many more. This wine is a symphony, not a rock band! A ragtag gang of intermingling flavs & mineral essences coming together to sing one symmetrical, unified song! 30% of grapes undergo carbonic maceration for resonant fruit— tangerine skittles, pear nectar, salted green mango, piña colada, quince jelly. Rest assured, it is powerful yet bone dry with charming saltwater taffy & pink pepper notes from the alluvial soil of the Neusiedlersee. Light oak, two week on skins & ten months on lees for body & texture. Natty & fierce yet pure & precise, this is a gateway skin contact that might freak out your conservative parents but is defo safe to try out on squarer pals.

Pinot Gris & Gewürztraminer, Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, Canada | As anyone who has ever worked at a wine bar knows, this is basically a perfect orange wine that makes people lose their goddamn minds. Their signature skin contact blend is mostly Pinot Gris with a splash of Gewürztraminer for a bit of floral lift. Grapes are destemmed and undergo whole-berry carbonic maceration for five days which gives us bangin’ & pronounced citrus flavours that aren’t here to mess around. Bold, proud and bursting with energy, flamingo orange-pink & endlessly Instagrammable, unfined & unfiltered with minimal sulphur. Honeydew Sour Patch Kid (which isn’t a thing but it should be!), rosewater-infused Fresca, blood orange, jalapeño white tea. We’re looking at a fresh & jubilant sidekick who does indeed manage to conjure up the carefree vibes of a Sunday in August but at heart, transcends any day or week or month, it’s simply perfect any time. Smash it year-round & scream for joy.

Sauvignon Blanc, Curicó Valley, Chile | The Echeverria family has been making wine since 1740, originally growing fruit before they shifted to bottling their own, sustainably farmed wines in 1990. And thank goodness they did! Organically grown from pre-phylloxera vines, the grapes undergo a 45-day maceration to create this all-around satisfying treat. Amber like the afternoon sun reflected off a snowbank, light-bodied with a juicy texture and notes of tangerine curd, green apple, orange blossom, manuka honey & rubbing your face in a handful of wildflowers (okay we miss spring). Drink on that plus 5º day while your nose momentarily de-thaws and a bit of sleepy grass peeks through your white-capped iceberg of a front garden. Spoiler alert! We’ve known talented winemaker, sweet peach and 4th generation grape grower Roberto Echeverria FOREVER and he and his wines are beyond lovely. A very special GW collab is coming in 2023!
