This wine stole our heart in a recent tasting and really showcases what great Beaujolais is all about: finesse, etherial beauty and the perfect kiss of structure. A masterpiece! Dutraive is a captain of Beaujolais: devoted, highly capable & beloved – for both his top-tier wines and welcoming nature (we were SO lucky to visit last year!). Domaine de la Grand Cour is a historic estate, located on a plateau in Fleurie with highly acidic soils made of nearly 100% decomposed granite. FUN FACT! Granite is associated with quick drainage, leading to more layered and intense flavours and aromas, as vines focus on producing fewer, smaller, and more concentrated grapes! At 45 years of age, Jean-Louis considers these his ‘young vines’, which make up the largest bottling on the estate, touched by nothing more than a small amount (10mg) of sulphur to keep them in line – the saying “the apple of my eye” comes to mind here. Shattered boulder, summer wedding florals, thyme-y pepper rub herbs, white cherry juice & finding a patch of thimbleberries beside a creek. Enjoy on the floor, scribbling down sketches, thoughts and dreams.
