Poulsard lovers bend your ear, this pale, perfumed and profound merlot brings a new frontier. Dedicated farmers Anders and Anne bring us into their world of charm and splendour through the looking glasses of Alsace and Ardèche. Their signature style is functionally food-obsessed, increasingly oxidative, ’au natural’ (aka zero-zero) & requires, not an acquired taste, but possibly an acquired state of mind to truly enter their world. ’Bad lighting, Call you later’ is deep n’ dark merlot from Le Mazel (aka the acclaimed Gérald Oustric), mainly direct pressed (90%), with (10%) destemmed, whole grapes macerated in the juice for over a month, keeping the heartbeat of tannin alive. Flooded cranberry field, blood orange bitters, spicebush, herb rub, moist and shallow cave, crumbling graphite & a modern take on fruitcake. A goes-with-everything kind of adaptogenic red, pour when overcome with senses of love, loss or luck.
