Barbera & Bonarda, Emilia-Romagna, Italy | When the need for 'just red wine' takes ahold of your spirit but your voracious need for textured, ethereal & intriguing wines demands something a bit extra! This organic blend of local Italian varietials is the deep, funky & rich red we didn't know we needed, casually presented like the casually exceptional house wine of a totally run-of-the-mill restaurant in some far-flung Italian village. Blackcurrant, cassis and plum in a smoke-filled discoteca, silk-lined tannins, Vespa exhaust, a gold chain hitting you in the face. Mourn your losses & celebrate your successes.
Lambrusco Salamino, Emilia-Romagna, Italy | From fourth-generation winemakers Alberto and Barbara Paltrinieri, this Lambrusco Salamino is a classic beauty, here to rescue you from lacklustre reds and humdrum sparkling wines! If it's in stock, just pick it up — it goes fast! With just the right balance of dry, powdery florals and sweet red fruit, it's easy to see why this Lambrusco is an all-time bestseller. Perrier fizz, black cherry cola, red cherries & potpourri florals with gently powdered tannins. Without a syrupy moment in sight, get ready to hop on the Lambru bandwagon with the rest of us!
Trebbiano, Malvasia & Verdicchio, Lazio, Italy | For such an easy, breezy & beautiful orange wine, we’d never expect it to be made in all seriousness by nuns at a monastery! That’s right – hailing from the Sisters of the Cisterian order of Vitorchiano, this co-fermented blend of regional Italian varieties was grown on volcanic soils, pours a light amber in the glass and has a distinctly mineral texture and tannin. Like any good potluck, no one came empty-handed – Trebbiano brings body, Verdicchio has a pleasant, green fennel note and Malvasia has that classic, orange blossom punch. Wild fermented in tank, aged for year & bottled unfined and unfiltered, expect a radiant, fruity-floral kick of baked green apple, fennel lemonade, clementine, apricot skin, pine needle, wildflower honey & a flinty, stony finish with a touch of welcome bitterness. Pair with A Room of One’s Own and a big bowl of fruit by an open window.
