Nero d’Avola, Frappato, Sicily, Italy
Drink with us from the most southern corner of Sicily, what winemaker Dario Serrintino lyrically calls "a desert next to the beach”. Mortellito is comprised of a two hectare piece of countryside where Dario’s great-grandparents lived in the early twentieth century, and where he now organically farms. Sicily is a revered hot spot for innovation and organic wine, and has been called, “the hip grandmother of the wine world” by some. FUN FACT! Dario used to sell his grapes to the likes of natural wine icons Frank Cornelissen and Lamoresca, talk about #GoodGrapes! This blend of savoury and passionate nero d’avola and raspberry-spiced frappato sees 15 days of maceration, pulling benevolent tannins. Susucaru vibes (circa 2010) alll the way – candied strawberry, white peppercorn, star anise, dried log in the sun, salty limoncello, swiss chard bitterness, ash & crunchy minerality that brings this wine to a 5/5 on the HIGHLY drinkable scale. Try with an ‘nduja and fennel pizza.
Lambrusco Salamino, Emilia-Romagna, Italy
From fourth-generation winemakers Alberto and Barbara Paltrinieri, this Lambrusco Salamino is a classic beauty, here to rescue you from lacklustre reds and humdrum sparkling wines! If it's in stock, just pick it up — it goes fast! With just the right balance of dry, powdery florals and sweet red fruit, it's easy to see why this Lambrusco is an all-time bestseller. Perrier fizz, black cherry cola, red cherries & potpourri florals with gently powdered tannins. Without a syrupy moment in sight, get ready to hop on the Lambru bandwagon with the rest of us!
Müller-Thurgau, Trentino-Alto Adige, Italy
Look at the gorgeous golden hour hue of this biodynamic alpine treasure! The exact shade of sunset when the entire city is compelled to post it to their Stories, a rare shared moment of pure pleasure – just like drinking this with your best pals (virtually)! Spontaneously fermented with 20 days on the skins by beloved, biodynamic whizz-kids Furlani, followed by a few months in tank and bottled without fining, filtration or added sulphites. A whiff of yeasty funk on the nose becomes clementine juice, grapefruit zest, bruised apple & orange blossom on the palate, textured & fresh like a mountain breeze. Release your inhibitions & feel the rain on your skin!
