Syrah, Rhône Valley, France

One of those wines that has us crawling back (in a good way!) because who are we to deny the pleasures of spicy Syrah? Just tiny ants on this big anthill called Earth, that’s who. Syrah, Rhône Valley, France

One of those wines that has us crawling back (in a good way!) because who are we to deny the pleasures of spicy Syrah? Just tiny ants on this big anthill called Earth, that’s who. Domaine de L’Ecu is one of the Loire’s brightest biodynamic producers, one of the first to adopt organic viticulture, long before it was trendy. With climate change a constant threat, they now also produce wines from different regions across France, buying grapes from organic growers they respect in sunnier places. The 'Nobis' is sourced from a tiny, 2-hectare vineyard near Châteauneuf-du-Pape, the grapes were fermented and aged for 10 months in stainless steel to integrate the fresh fruit flavours and bottled without fining or filtration. Velvety dark fruit meets faded wallpaper florals – black cherry, crushed black peppercorns, earthy forest floor, a whiff of eucalyptus & a faint cured meat note are balanced by medium acid, silky tannins and crunchy mineral texture. Like the perfect second date, this wine brings an ineffable complexity and charm while being easy-going enough to adapt to any situation – pair with Popeye’s, grocery store charcuterie & kitchen sink stews.
