First thing’s first - let’s talk about this label. Since invading Georgia in 2008, Russia has increased their influence in occupied areas, strengthening their military presence and gradually annexing territory along the border, centimetre-by-centimetre every year. Thirteen years later, 20% of Georgia remains occupied and since then, the state of human rights in the country has deteriorated. Keto Ninidze has included this on her labels for several vintages, a stark reminder of an ongoing geopolitical conflict that continues to worsen. For Keto, wine is political, a tool to have an international conversation (her wines are imported into 8 countries) and push-back on deep-rooted sexism (one of the three books is entitled, '
A Gently Fermenting Revolution: Women in Georgian Wine Business'. This bone-dry rosé-coloured ‘amber wine’ has the golden hour saturation turned all the way up, a blend of 95% Tsolikouri white grape and 5% Oberluri-Ojaleshi juicy red, co-fermented and aged for 7 months in stainless steel with only 700 bottles produced. This wine is like nothing we've tried all year. Forget what you think a rosé-orange should taste like and prepare for something completely different. It most reminded us of a cross between Macvin - a rare speciality of France's famed Jura that is all freshly cut grass, pulpy grapes and savoury texture - and a salty, nutty pleasingly-oxidized sherry.  While some natural wines are best drunk quickly, this wine gets better and better as open. Throw it into a decanter - or milk jug - and let it transform, the nutty, manzanilla-adjacent nose gradually revealing the cornucopia of fresh fruit underneath. A hazy pink hue and notes of earthy melon rind, light red fruit, dried grass, olive brine & an oxidative, nutty kick. A habitual line-stepper, a non-conformist in every which way & an inspiration for sticking to it. Pair with art galleries, astral projection and tarte tatin.

We don't know if you've heard this, but Canada is a truly WILD place to import wine. Each province is it's own country with super strict rules. For ages, so much of the very best natural wine never made it into the province. That is changing in such an exciting way. We started our own import company to bring you some of our very favourite wines from around the world at the sharpest prices - this allows us to travel, fall in love with a wine, and bring right to your doorstep without a middle person. Put simply, as the importer, we shave one layer off the supply chain. We offer these sweet wholesale discounts when you bundle. From 1, 3 to 6 packs you'll find serious savings. The GWI sticker - Grape Witch Imports - means not only that we strongly stand behind the producer, it also means you won't find a better deal anywhere else in town. It also allows us to source many wines just for the shop - you'll find Ontario exclusives marked GWIE - Grape Witch Import Exclusive. Are you a licensee or producer looking to join our imports roster? Send us an email at hello@grapewitchimports.com
