The Peique family story began in a small village of less than 200 people, located in the Bierzo area of León. They now have 40 hectares of vineyards, where absolutely everything is done by hand. FUN FACT! For many years, the mencia wines of the Bierzo appellation didn't see recognition as top-quality wines, however, at the end of the 1990s, a new generation of oenologists rediscovered the gem-like old vines of the region and dedicated themselves to showing the true potential of the mencia variety. Mencía is the most important grape variety in their vineyards, and accounts for 98% of the grapes used in the family’s red wines that have been made for three generations. FUN FACT #2! Their vineyards are almost 100 years old and exclusively planted with traditional regional grapes godello and mencía. This brawny, but fresh mencía comes from 45-55 year old vines and is briefly aged in stainless steel to preserve the palate’s brightness & chipper fragrance. Purple rubies, blue peony, black cherry jam, ripe plum, liquorice, spiced minerality & a drawn-out finish. Enjoy while chopping wood, butchering meat or building a treehouse.
