An intriguing flip on Cab Franc from Vinyes Tortuga, an exciting new wine project out of the Alt-Empordá region of northeast Spain. Dido and Jurriaan worked for wineries around the world but it was meeting natural wine trailblazer Joan Ramon Escoda that really changed the way they made wine, focusing on growing the best fruit to make the best wine, made sound without sulphites. Mostly Cab Franc with 10% Xarel-lo, this lightweight red-white blend was vinified like a white with a short, 3-day wild ferment on the skins and a few months in tank and barrel before being bottled without fining, filtering or sulphur. Juicy and utterly drinkable with freshness at the forefront – juicy, tart wildberry, chewy plum, capsicum, white pepper, wet cobblestone, a touch of green herbs & a lean, acid-driven finish. Pair with pepperoni pizza & racking up a high score on the pinball machine.
