A pure, polished and unrelentingly pleasing Jura chardonnay. For the first time in Ontario, GWI is proud to welcome Les Bottes Rouge! Winemakers Jean-Baptiste Menigoz and Florien Kleine Snuverink are a spirited pair growing vines and fermenting low-intervention wines in the heart of Jura’s Arbois region. Their seven hectares of regionally beloved grapes include chardonnay, pinot noir, ploussard, trousseau and savagnin, all grown organically and with biodynamic treatments when needed. FUN FACT! Arbois was the first French wine appellation (AOC), established in 1936! ‘Léon’ is made from chardonnay vines between 25 to 65-years-old and grown on clay-heavy-limestone soils, that are direct pressed and aged for 18 months in old oak barrels to tame. More Burgundy-esque than the oxidative style Jura is known for, we get golden edges of white cake, lemon meringue, lees, rich white lilac, mineral prongs & a tiny bit of greenness, like bundles of farmers market herbs. Enjoy with a backyard fish cookout and many cheers, this much beauty must be acknowledged!
