A spiced, herbaceous and salty Austrian textured white. Brand new to Ontario, fifth generation winemaker Katharina Gessl crafts her low-intervention lineup based on gut instincts, patience and dedication. Her winery bridges between classic and modern, sitting in the town of Zellerndorf, a part of Austria’s largest wine-growing region, Weinviertel, of Lower Austria. ‘Chlingel’ (translation, rascal) is made from aromatic gelber muskateller grown on calcareous soils, picked by hand and macerated for 24 hours to pull tactility, aromatics and might. Katharina wrote, “A risky act, not everyone's cup of tea (not mine for a long time). All the more exciting, then, and to my great surprise, somehow the darling at the end…the underdog, the rascal”. Sweet musk, peach season, salty grapefruit limeade, nutmeg, turmeric, cumin, muddled herbs & candied elderberries. Enjoy with Käsekrainer (cheese-filled sausage) and vigorous swirling to really envelope the senses.
