Catalunya is most famous for its Cava, but its 2,000+ year winemaking history is so much more, with diverse traditions, Mediterranean-influenced terroir & regional grapes to explore.

Tanca Els Ulls

Meet Fransec, winemaker of the tiny, thrilling project Tanca Els Ulls. Francesc tends the old, regional vines his grandfather planted inside a breathing web of fruiting forests & wild herbs. His wines exude aromatics, minerality, & tension. Tanca els ulls (translation, “close your eyes”) and dive on in with us, head first!

Cellar Frisach

Celler Frisach is the energetic, Tarragona-based project of brothers Francesc and Joan Ferré. Part of a two century long line of grape farmers, their lineup melds traditional practices with rare grapes. Yes, their Abrunet wines are some of the best value wines on our shelf, but don’t sleep on his higher end orange and red!

Bodega Clandestina

When we talk about Bodega Clandestina, we smile! Ferran Lacruz, the young winemaker behind the project is just about the sweetest person we know. He explores gentle maceration that he likens to carefully brewing tea. The results are electric with crystalline flavours, SALTINESS, & smells of his beloved homeland.

Adernats

We can’t leave the region without a perfect cava! We find ours from Adernats, an organic co-op in Nulles, a mere 12 km from the sea. We LOVED touring their cathedral-style winery, made by Gaudi disciple Cèsar Martinell i Brunet. Bombolla, is a rare ‘brut nature’, meaning zero sugar is added at any point in production. It’s crispy, and pithy & perfect any night of the week.
