A ginger-tinged & salty Catalunyan orange wine from a clandestine grape made just for us! ‘Melo’ comes from a new collab with Adernats, a picture-perfect winemaking co-op In Tarragona that’s all about connecting local, organic grape growers with low intervention vinification. Rare xarel-lo vermell – a spunky, pink-ish genetic mutant of Spain’s most important cava grape – spends seven days on its skins, for texture maxxing purposes. Melo here has two meanings, the Catalan word for melon, denoting its stunning colour, and a Spanish expression for ‘that’s cool’ or ‘that’s chill’, certainly a remark we’ll get to employ when drinking this wine! Or use it next time you find yourself in Park Guell, as a plump Cara Cara sun illuminates every fracture of hallucinogenic architecture and the only other Spanish word you know, ‘si’ – which has really exposed your flailing commitment to DuoLingo. Pop the cork and find juicy cantalope, flowering aniseed, the orange peel in the olive bowl & modest sailboat named Sea’s the Breeze. Drink on a daytime cruise or during your peak European escapist fantasy (or both) and preferably with some sizzling, garlicky prawns.
