Aligoté, Burgundy, France
A polished, pronounced & pristine Burgundian beauty. Fashion designer turned biodynamic winemaker Pierre Fenals is all about fashioning pure, traditional translations of place, time & care. His grape laden path includes meeting (and reading) biodynamic founder Rudolf Steiner, interning with Trapet, Lapierre, and Emmanuel Giboulot & finally purchasing his first 2.5 hectares of vines in Maranges and the Haute Côtes de Beaune in 2002 (and raising cows!). From the Lieu-dit Les Genouvrees, these soils are characterized by white clay, limestone and fossils, which bring about a mineral magnitude that can be tasted through and through. The salty tightrope walker aligoté is born from biodynamically farmed, 30-year-old vines, direct-pressed and left for some alone time, aka 15-80 months of rest! Brioche brooch, Tuileries gardens in summer, limestone tension pulling its way through beeswax craters, golden delicious apple & saffron tincture. Enjoy while darning your socks, gotta stay down to earth with something this elevated.
