A savoury, aromatic and fruity, zero-zero rosé from Vancouver Island that they say is like, “an orange wine, white wine, and red wine all in the same glass” - #NobodyPutsBabyintheCorner! Founded in 2001, Averill Creek produces low-intervention wines guided by organic and biodynamic principles, and regenerative farming across their 30 acres of vines on Mount Prevost, in the Cowichan Valley. Known as "The Warm Land" from the Coast Salish word Quw’utsun, the Cowichan Valley is located in the sunny south of Vancouver Island and spans from coast to coast across its width. FUN FACT! Vancouver Island has Canada’s mildest climate, and Canada's only maritime Mediterranean climatic zone. It is also home to towering ancient rainforests, AND is actually Canada's second most populated island after Quebec's, island of Montreal! Joue means ‘play’, and that is exactly what they do with this lineup, experiment to produce unique, frolicking and vintage-reflecting wines that inspire delight. The ‘Joue Rosé’ is a blend of berried, floral pinot noir, stone-fruity, weighty pinot gris, earthy, concentrated marechal foch, and aromatic, spiced gewürztraminer. The red grapes were hand picked and loaded directly into the press on ‘champagne cycle’ (a gentle and long press), then put into an open top fermenter, where the pinot gris and gewürztraminer are loaded on top like a cap – which is then punched down (or submerged into the juice) once or twice a day to gently extract. Dried flowers everywhere, strawberry-rhubarb slurpee, weaving grass, lime cotton candy at the fair, pepper grinder, seaside minerals & damp earth. Pour alongside planning your next trip to Vancouver island, may we suggest visiting Red Fish Blue Fish in the Victoria harbour, Wild Mountain in Sooke, and the original Tacofino truck in Tofino (ask if they still do the off menu tuna burrito with seaweed salad, we promise you won’t be sorry).
