A fresh, fennel-y and fruity Spanish skin contact white blend for listening to the crickets sing. Azul y Garanza sits in the otherworldly Bardenas Reales Natural Park in Northern Spain’s Navarra region. The founders Dani Sánchez, María Barrena and Fernando Barrena work with minimal intervention and immense respect for every bit of flora and fauna of the region. From calcarious-clay soils, the certified organic, 20-year-old floral, stone-fruity garnacha blanca and herbaceous, nutty viura (or macabeo) vines were hand-harvested, fermented and aged for six months in concrete, with half the time spent on the lees to plump and round. Orange blossom, apricot spread, peach tea, fresh fennel, lemongrass & a lemon curd-y richness. Pour on a Tuesday night alongside a good nature documentary.
