A free-spirited & zero-zero concoction for orange wine newbies and long-time lovers alike! Winemaker Ferran Lacruz organically and biodynamically farms 8 hectares of vines in his homeland of Penedes, Catalonia – but instead of ‘Penedes’ on his bottles you’ll find ‘PNDS.’ It’s a nod to the eponymous natural wine fair that celebrates environmentally conscious winemaking & his experimental line, including organic grapes from friends to make delicious releases that protect his region from factory farming - they are the Guardians! In this case, he got kooky in the proverbial kitchen by resting light & bright xarel-lo juice on wildly aromatic gewürztraminer skins. The result is a curious, carrot-coloured wine with green-tea grip and enough aroma to rival an Aesop store. Think many things: dried citrus, roses on February 15, peach suede & wondering did I say too much? but confidently answering NO! Have this with a brave and strange cheese, like Cabrales or Queso de Valdeón, and prepare for dreams as adventurous as Clandestina itself.
