A lesson in Hungarian grape varieties! Meet furmint, here for the lovers of Loire chenin blanc, quevri aged rieslings & savagnin from anywhere! Maurer is all about heart and soul, built on a foundation of organic agriculture, experimentation and dispensing with the addition of sulphur as often as possible. Grown on Serbia’s Fruška Gora mountain, a mere 500 MILLION years old, with vineyards set on volcanic bedrock & covered in marine sediment #TasteTheRainbow. Harvested late, on the 23rd of October, to allow for 20% of the grapes to become infected with noble rot, aka botrytis – the tasty fungus that concentrates sugars and acids by evaporating the grapes water content. After five days of skin contact extracting latticed tannins, the wine was matured for nine months adopting slight oak character & bottled without added sulphites. Differing from the previous vintage, this year is all about ACID and structure, with peppery-spice and honeycomb from the noble rot, slightly bitter chestnuts, dried apricots, waxy yellow apple skin tannins & quince marmalade. Enjoy with sharp, hard cheeses & your finest floral patterned outfit.
