Pinot Noir, Burgundy, France
A rare, rich and rowdy Burgundian red from a widely-versed German wiz-kid. A rare, rich and rowdy Burgundian red from a widely-versed German wiz-kid. Winemaker Bastian Wolber’s resume is teeming with royalty, from Domaine Bizot and Domaine Leflaive in Burgundy, to Jean-Marc Dreyer in Alsace (excuse moi??), before starting his label in 2016 while recovering from a skateboarding injury sustained during harvest at the (also FAMED) Domaine Ganevat. Today he works as a negociant (grape buyer, not grower) under the Laisse Tomber label, where he is able to experiment consistently, sourcing grapes from diverse regions like Savoie, Burgundy, Alsace and Baden, Germany. These pinot noir vines were planted in the 1970s on limestone and clay-limestone in Ladoix and Mâconnais, hand-picked and carbonically macerated for lofty lightness & aerodynamic aromatics. FUN FACT! The grapes from Ladoix are layered in alternating tiers between the already-fermenting (10 days along) Mâconnais grapes to meld the two like a two-halves of one heart necklace. This intracellular process helps release unique aromas, and aging for 10-12 months brings the buoyant fruit to its knees. Sun-dried cherry fruitcake, hibiscus stamen, shadow cooled earth, banya birch leaves, roses, allspice shavings & a dose of hedonism. Enjoy alongside your favourite local fried chicken joint takeout, PG Clucks, Chica’s or Popeyes anyone?
