Nebbiolo, Croatina, Vespolina & Uva Rara, Alto Piemonte, Italy

A stunning floral, but firm, cooler climate Nebbiolo from a buzzy volcanic region. If you love Barolo and Barbaresco, but haven’t yet discovered the wines of Alto Piemonte, prepare to be an instant convert. Noah is the passion project of Giovanna Pepe and Andrea Mosca, named after their son after purchasing 4.7 hectares around Brusnengo in northern Piedmont. There they live and work in an historic area nearly completely abandoned in the post-war period and slowly revived by a tiny group of strong-willed, hard-working producers. With only 28 hectares in the appellation and a handful of producers, the small output has a global impact, creating some of the world’s most sought after wines on red volcanic soil known as porphyry. The Rocce di Luce comes from 45-year-old vines grown on a high-altitude vineyard less than a half-hectare in size; the cooler microclimate is harvested almost two weeks after a nearby vineyard on sandier soils. Firm Nebbiolo, balanced by more delicate and nuanced croatina, vespolina and uva rara are macerated on their skins for 30 days before aged in Slavonian oak for 22 months. Breathtaking lift and freshness with an underpinning of firm tannin and broad, tight spice. Strawberry, baked earth, mint, well-used leather and herbal tonic with a blood orange, mineral lift. Pair with exceeding expectations, impressing everyone & cooking your first roast.
