‘(La) Bruja da Rozas’, or ‘The Witch of Rozas’, is a whimsical reference to the eerily coloured, overcast weather typical of the village of Rozas and its surrounding farmland. Winemakers Fernando and Dani join together as Commando G to create this 100% old vine Garnacha fever-dream. A superb introduction to their highly sought after line of satiating Spanish wines, ‘La Bruja’ is harvested from several different plots, all cultivated at fantastically high altitudes along the Sierra de Gredos. A delicate perfume of pomegranate, liquorice, laurel, thyme & grapefruit pith meet warm, dusty spices on the palate. Raspberry and lemon coulis, wildflower field, flint – like several unsuccessful attempts to strike a match & caressingly fine tannins seemingly transmuted from the sandy, granitic soils they are cultivated on. This wine pairs well with a cross country train ride, listening to Lucinda Williams & munching on roasted game bird smothered in the traditional Catalan sauce, Picada.
