Grenache Noir, Carignan, Lledoner Pelut, Terra Alta, Spain
A superbly spiced, structured and herbaceous Catalonian red blend. Brothers Francesc and Joan Ferré are part of a two century long line of grape farmers, making energetic natural wines in the Terra Alta appellation of Catalonia. The grapes for ‘Sang de Corb’ or “crow’s blood” come from the family’s "El Dellà del Riu” plot, and are over 65 years old, planted between almond, apple and olive trees on clay-limestone soils. A blend of co-fermented, grenache noir, lledoner pelut (also called hairy grenache!) and carignan, aged for a year in foudres and demi johns to bring us to a place of supple scrumptiousness. Peppercorn, chica, chica cherry cola, a silken texture, liquorice root, woody herbs, prickly acidity, violets, spiced prunes & a light toast. Pour alongside roasts, beef gravy and hasselback potatoes.
Gamay, Beaujolais, France
If there was ever a single wine that encompasses Beaujolais’ past, present and future, this is undoubtedly it, a real OG! It was Mathieu and Camille Lapierre’s father, Marcel, who alongside some legendary, like-minded winemakers – Guy Breton, Jean-Paul Thévenet and Jean Foillard, dubbed the Gang of Four – popularized many of the natural wine practices seen around the world today. After Marcel’s passing in 2010, his children have taken the torch and really run with it, introducing biodynamic principles and cementing this wine’s status as one of the greatest French wines of all time. And if you’ve never had Morgon before, you’re in for a treat! Powerful is one word for it, transcendent is another. Ripe, lustrous and vast, nearly Pinot Noir but undeniably Gamay, a giant with a gentle touch. Pretty little red fruits, rubbed rose, turned earth, hard gravel, soft graphite, Marc Jacobs’ Daisy & horsehair tannins. Perfect for anniversaries & spoiling yourself rotten, which are not mutually exclusive.
Also available in Magnums and DOUBLE Magnums!
Nebbiolo, Lombardy, Italy
A mineral, nuanced and savoury high-altitude nebbiolo for alpine fanatics. One of GW Import’s three NEW Italian arrivals, meet Marco Ferrari! Founded in 2019, Marco Ferrari is a jewel of an estate in famed Valtellina, with one foot in tradition and another digging-in for dear life to the beloved alpine slopes. From high up in the mountains, Valtellina is known for their remarkably steep, time-worn stone-terrace vineyards and wines of cool elegance. With vines aging 60-80 years and predominantly coming from minerality-encouraging mica-schist and iron-rich soils, the grapes see a mix of lifting semi-carbonic maceration for four days and skin contact for twelve more before 18 months on lees churning inside their chrysalis. Chest at the bottom of the ocean, 90% chocolate, field of boulders, shrubby thorns n' sticks, cranberry sauce, squid ink minerality, plum tart & hugging someone with a beard who’s the same height as you. Enjoy alongside squid ink spaghetti with clams.
