It's easy to forget that wine is fruit first, harvested from plants. In this new session, we are starting at this critical and fascinating building block, exploring farming and viticulture, as a vehicle for deeper conversations about regenerative agriculture & what the future of wine might look like.
We'll start by following the life of a vine, from pruning and budding to all stages of berry until it's time to pick. We'll explore important decisions and their impact at each stage, along with all the things that can go wrong. We'll also dive into the difference between organic, biodynamic, and regenerative farming, and why it can be so hard to find that information on a label.
We'll also get personal. What is working harvest really like (from someone who has done it!) and what does a winemaker do for the rest of the year? (is this like a teacher on summer break situation?)
How does the climate impact the way the vines behave, the way the winemaker thinks, and how the wine ultimately tastes? Of course, we must discuss climate chaos and what people are doing to pivot including understanding of PLACE or terroir, as more than just grapes and European vinifera.
This is SUCH a fascinating topic & one we're so excited to teach. Along the way, we'll sip 4 interesting and delicious wines from around the world to tell this story.
All event tickets are non-refundable. Two free community tickets for BIPOC folks available for every Education Hour.
