Malvazija & Pinot Blanc, Istria, Slovenia | “Good-morning sunshine!”, says this plush, 90s silk-dress of a blend of Malvazija & Pinot Blanc. Korenika & Moškon is a family owned & biodynamic certified winery located in Istria, Slovenia. A coastal dreamland producing inviting, joyous wines. Welcoming notes of lemon drops, shortbread, waving jasmine flowers & crushed boulder minerality. With a surprisingly satisfying rounded and plush palate for the lover of Loire Chenin Blanc (#same) - think dollops of honeyed sweetness perfectly cut by tidal pool salinity and white currant acidity. Drink this treat on a Wednesday evening, chive cream cheese and smoked salmon bagel in hand, while your cat watches you from atop the fridge, begging you to drop some.
White Field Blend, Burgenland, Austria | Gut Oggau winemakers Stephanie & Eduard Tscheppe are deeply adored by natural wine lovers the whole world over and deserve every last iota of praise & reverence they receive! The fabric of the wines hinges upon the existence of a fictional family, with every vineyard plot being characterized by one of its members. Theodora is the youngest member of the Gut Oggau fam, representing the most recently planted vines. This field blend of mostly Gruner Veltliner & Welschriesling is well-structured, but softer, lower acid, and more textural than previous vintages, floral & playful, like braiding yourself a dandelion crown. Taking a big fat bite of Fuji apple, walking barefoot through the grass, stumbling upon an abandoned herb garden. Mineral character is expressed through a compelling wet clay note which makes us think that maybe Theodora is becoming a potter! You go, Theodora! We support you in everything you do.
Procanico, Lazio, Italy | Like an embroidered linen paint-smock, textured & embracing, with a few smudges of genius leftover from projects passed. American winemaker Joy Kull caught the grape bug while working as a sommelier and swiftly realized her only option was to travel to a faraway land to expand her mind & dirty her hands. The goal of her wines is to be widely tried, easily understood & vastly appreciated. Grown on volcanic soils that add complexity & a ruched, mineral character. 70% of the grapes are crushed by foot and direct pressed, while 30% are macerated for a week to extract supportive and intriguing tannin. Pale n’ rusty gold, with laser-like pithy-lemon acidity, cherry blossoms, peach filling, salty cantaloupe & honey-glazed pastry for a balanced wonder. Drink, as your second bottle, on your two-year anniversary – reflecting on how far you’ve come together & envisioning how much farther you will go.
