Gernot and Heike Heinrich’s 100+ hectares in the municipality of Gols, Burgenland are farmed certified biodynamically since 2006, and stocked with sheep, ducks, hens, and beehives! Their lineup is teasingly diverse, with a through line of finesse and spirit achieved through minimal intervention in the cellar. A blend of two diverse plots, the grapes are from both the slate, limestone soils of Leithaberg in the west, which encourage minerality and freshness, as well as the sandy, southern slopes of the Parndorfer Platte, which encourage aromatics and ripeness, in the east of Lake Neusiedl. The grapes were crushed and left on skins for two weeks to pull depth and design, before 18 months maturing in used oak barrels. Dark berries collected from the furthest reaches of the forest perked up by spritely acidity, violet perfume spritzes, rosemary bush, juniper, mineral wash & petrified wood tannins. Enjoy alongside lamb chops, ragouts or short ribs in all manner of sauces.
