Kadarka from the oldest kadarka vineyard on the planet! Talk about FlAvOuR! This rare gem blew us away and we're delighted to bring it to you. Maurer is all about heart and soul, built on a foundation of organic agriculture, experimentation and dispensing with the addition of sulphur as often as possible. Grown on Serbia’s Fruška Gora mountain – close to the Croatian border and adjacent to the river Danube – a mere 500 MILLION years old, made up of volcanic bedrock & covered in marine sediment. Talk about TASTY! The 140 year old vines produce impressively small yields, which are hand-harvested and fermented in open top vessels to allow for slight oxygen contact, then aged for 12 months in old oak to bring everything to a finely knotted point. A botrytis-y nose (think sappy fruit concentrate), milk thistle, hibiscus + rhubarb cola, rosemary cured meat, aged balsamic & laying on the forest floor. Enjoy with a short decant alongside a roasted pheasant and spiced beets.
