A richly textural, aromatic and off-the-beaten-path Hungarian orange. Farming biodynamically since 2018, Kristinus is led by winemaker Florian Zaruba, who keenly follows a holistic, minimal intervention approach all the way through from the vineyard to the cellar. A blend of two Hungarian grapes, the intensely aromatic and honeyed isai oliver (80%) and the structured, tree-fruited furmint (20%). Fermentation takes place in separate vessels, isai oliver is kept in tank for a few days on skins, while the furmint is left partly as whole clusters in a mix of wood barrels and clay amphora before aging on fine lees – a perfect storm of tactility and prowess. Pomelo melona, elderflower, mowed grass, rose petals, apricot nectar, salted bitter almonds & apple skins. Pour alongside tomato salad of any kind.
