From one of the oldest winemaking families in Gaillac, ’Contre-Pied’ means the ‘wrong direction,’ an allusion to this twist on local grape Duras, given a very Beaujolais-inspired treatment featuring ripe, macerated fruit & heady, intoxicating florals. Sourced from organic neighbours, the grapes underwent a carbonic ferment in barrel and were aged for 7-8 months, then bottled unfined and unfiltered. Ripe cherry, pomegranate cocktail & blackberry pavlova are followed by spicy black pepper, bruised herbs & the inside of someone’s old leather jacket. Plump tannins and a bright, balanced acid round out this confident, even irreverent red who would never shy away from liking a year-old Instagram pic of you looking hot.
