Alert alert! This wildly aromatic white from an Austrian cult producer Claus Preisinger is at a high risk of disappearing! Even though ‘Puszta Blanca’ has just barely debuted in Ontario, we can never get enough of its red cousin, ‘Puszta Libre!,’ and we just know this zippy white is going to move faster than a seagull with a stolen French fry. While the rest of Austria is better known for ultra-classic whites, the small region of Burgenland where Claus produces his fine nectars has become a hub for buzzy organic and biodynamic wines that seem to pop like a much-needed back-cracking. In ‘Puszta Blanca!’ splendidly verdant & salty grüner (60%), weissburgunder (35%) & muscat (5%) join forces to make a peppery & punchy number that’s got definition VERVE. This is an alien’s bouquet: lemon warhead candy, early plucked peach, flowering dill, Alf chia pet, peppercorn grinder with all the colours & feta brine you swear you’ll use for something soon. Have it with an equally eccentric vegetable – like a globe artichoke!
