Stanko Radikon was beloved by many, one of several winemakers making a uniquely Slovenian style of Friuli wines – dense, textured & wildly complex, among the finest skin-contact wines in the world. After Stanko’s passing in 2016, his son Saša took the helm, marking this as first vintage of a new generation – no pressure! But of course, Jakot remains largely unchanged, an absolute stalwart thanks to its long ferment and extended aging. Farmed from ancient vines with astoundingly low yields (hence, the smaller 500ml bottle), the grapes are softly crushed and macerated for 6-7 months in Georgian amphora, then aged in Slavonian oak before an additional three years in the bottle, without filtration or added sulphur. Resinous and rich with an intoxicating aroma and whiffs of negroni twist, dried apricot, passionfruit pulp, preserved lemon, pine nut, orange blossom with a sharp, crystalline acidity and firm, assam tea tannins. Pair with loopy cursive, honey roasted carrots & the waning moon.
