A pretty as can be & delicately structured regional Italian red ready to ignite conversation over a meal! American-born winemaker Summer Wolff (best name… ever?) worked in just about every wine-adjacent job before moving to a small village, Monferrato, just below the kneecap of Italy’s boot to make wines with Fabrizio Iuli of Cascina Iuli. She was always dreaming about how she’d make her own wines differently, and about five years ago she dove in, and started making pure & precise releases HER WAY from a small, two-hectare vineyard. Cue this sweet-berry freisa! FUN FACT! Freisa is genetically related to nebbiolo, the beloved grape of Barolo but it tends to be vinified into a younger & FUNNER cousin! ANOTHER FUN FACT! ‘Gio Gio’ is named after Summer’s first son Gioacchino, but the word also sounds like ‘go-go’ and this wine’s delightful bright, crunchy acid gets the palate a-going – meaning it’s a perfect pair for a salty, fatty, protein-y meal! Think sliced strawberries dusted with sugar, roses crawling on the brick wall, pink & purple pansies, high-quality tobacco in the distance & powerful skirt suit! Get out the big pot and drink this with a long, low & slow-cooked ragu over eggy noodles!
