The suave & intriguing flagship red that begs to be surrounded by loud storytelling and even louder chuckles. Winemakers Joel Burt and (actor and comedian) Eric Wareheim work exclusively with either tried and true organic farmers or farmers in transition to organic practices. The grapes came from various plots of land with the largest one being composed of Yokaya (meaning deep, well-drained and fertile clay/silt/sand/gravel soils) sandy-loam soils typical of Mendocino California. The Charbono (aka Bonarda) grapes are treated with a stint of carbonic maceration (sealed in tank for 7 days with dry ice at 18°C), to lightened up its typically richer ‘spiced-plum-saucy’ flavours. The rest of the grapes are all aged in neutral wooden barrels and everything is blended together one month prior to bottling to happily marry the distinguished flavours together. Richly aromatic with notes of cocoa nibs and allspice leaning into ripe blackberry juice, caraway seed, salty earth & a deep n’ savoury cherry abyss. Drink while sitting on a fungus eaten log, thinking about which tree you are most similar to.
