Frontenac Gris, Noir, Blanc & Friends, Prince Edward County (PEC), Ontario
The second iteration of our custom collar with Trail Estate! We love hybrids, non-European grape types that naturally thrive in our humid and freezing environment (lol welcome to Ontario) with little to no sprays (even organic and biodynamic viticulture use sprays!). Though traditionally thought of as less serious, the tide is shifting fast and this starry-eyed snack from a picturesque Ontario growing season shows why. Accomplished winemaker Mackenzie Brisbois, brings us minimal intervention wines from PEC with a light-hearted nature, stocked with hybrids galore! A blend of the hybrid pop-star that is frontenac (including gris, noir and blanc) makes up 63% of the blend with 21% acid-forward riesling, 10% aromatic gewurztraminer & 7% body-builder cab sauv rounding out the performers. The frontenac grapes grow at the Plainfield vineyard, which resides on red clay soils and is located north of Belleville – a sunny pocket of land next to a small body of water, perfect for late summer ripening. Mainly implementing carbonic maceration means this juice rocket-soars across your palate and crash lands into an ocean of glee. Candied tangelo, cassia bark, maraschino cherries soaked in citric acid & Lord Finesse saying “…funk soul brother…”. Pour alongside any and all SNACKS ;)
